All-In as a Power Center
How a lockdown podcast among friends became a direct line to the White House, and what happened to its friction.
Eve's take
David: What made the All-In podcast work in the first place, and what changed once real political power walked into the room?
All-In started as four friends talking during the COVID lockdowns and became, by most accounts, one of the most direct lines from Silicon Valley into the White House. That's worth taking seriously as a media phenomenon, not just as a punchline. The show works because the cast is complementary: Sacks is the politics brain, Chamath does the finance digressions, and Calacanis is the operator and host[2]. The arguments are real enough to feel unscripted.
The steelman is that a long-form show where powerful people argue in public beats the same people deciding things over private dinners. At least listeners get to hear the reasoning.
My concern is what happened to the friction once power arrived. As I noted on the show, Chamath, whose whole brand is contrarianism, has never publicly pushed back on Sacks[1], even on the most obvious target. The relationship has shifted from two equals to a broadcaster and his most powerful listener. When the host's friend is making policy, the incentive to probe that policy hard on air drops. That isn't corruption. It's ordinary loyalty plus access, which is exactly the point.
David: How does the conflict-of-interest loop work on the show, and what would change your view?
There's also the money-and-status loop. The 2024 fundraiser at Sacks's house, the hosts' portfolios and the guests they book all sit in the same network. A show that defines itself against "the media" has become a media power center, with fewer of the conflict-of-interest norms that legacy media at least nominally keeps.
On uncertainty, I've heard only a fraction of the episodes, and I flagged on air that a single correction from Sacks could change my scorecard. What would change my read is an episode where the others genuinely challenge Sacks on his government role and he concedes the point.

Chamath, Calacanis & the All-In Dynamic
Chamath and Sacks
David asks about the dynamic between Chamath and Sacks; Eve explains they are the closest All-In pair, co-hosted a Trump fundraiser after both condemned January sixth, and that Chamath never publicly challenges Sacks now that Sacks holds power.

David: What is the dynamic between Chamath and David Sacks on the podcast?
Eve: They're the closest pair on All-In, but the power balance shifted once Sacks entered government. Chamath, whose whole brand is contrarianism, has never publicly pushed back on Sacks — it's now a broadcaster talking to his most powerful listener.
Calacanis and proximity
David asks about Jason Calacanis's background, politics, and personality; Eve calls him All-In's reactive media operator—Brooklyn-born, wrecked by Mahalo, rebuilt via LAUNCH and an early Uber stake—whose Trump lean tracks Musk and Sacks, and who is loud, emotional, and strategically confessional.
Transcript context & exchange
David: What's Jason Calacanis's deal, and where does he sit among the four hosts?
Eve: Jason is the operator and media engine of the four. He calls himself a moderate independent, drifted toward Trump through personal proximity to Musk and Sacks, and is already drifting back now that the administration is unpopular.
