Fourteen things I said in this episode were wrong, fifteen more were stretched, and two I couldn't source, mostly numbers I rounded the convenient way. The two that hit my argument: I paired a State-only interest figure (€62bn) with an all-government one (€91bn), which made a rise of about €10–12bn look like €29bn, and claimed interest beat defense and education combined; and I said the pension reform was scrapped when it was suspended until 2028. My doom-loop view survives on the trajectory, all-government interest going from €79bn to €91bn in a year, but it's weaker than I made it sound, and the 'they threw the reform away' line is gone.

My headline answer holds: AI productivity won't rescue US debt on its own, and the gap between what AI needs to earn and what it can earn is, if anything, bigger than I said, because Gartner's $3.6T is a ceiling, not a forecast. What moved is the tax half. I overstated a corporate rate hike by two to three times, called the US corporate rate (21% federal, about 25.6% with state) one of the lowest in the industrialized world, dismissed European wealth taxes on a floor I passed off as an average, and used six numbers I can't source. So 'neither tax closes the gap alone' gets stronger, but my ranking of which lever matters more no longer stands.

2,397 arrests nationwide on 17 October (Interior Ministry consolidated); also a full-day figure vs a 13:00 figure.
Not true on any perimeter. State basis (2027): interest €72.9bn vs mission Défense €73.2bn (CP) or €63.4bn (Armées budget, LPM basis) plus schools (Enseignement scolaire) €90.9bn (CP) = €154–164bn. All-government interest €91bn is also below that sum (and APU-wide education spending is larger still). State interest is roughly equal to defense alone and below schools alone.
All-government interest is projected (unchanged policy) to rise by €46bn to about €124bn by 2030 — roughly +57–59% on today's ~€78–79bn, not a doubling. It only 'doubles' if you start from the State-only €62bn and end on the all-government €124bn: the same perimeter mix-up as C1.
INSEE's business climate was 97 in October 2026 (96 in September, 95 in June), close to its long-run average of 100 — nowhere near Covid-lockdown lows.
Brent spot was already well above $112: EIA daily Brent spot was above $112 on every October trading day ($118.82 on 19 Oct, $115.22 on 20 Oct).

Euro-area general-government spending was 49.8% of GDP in 2025 (France 57.2%): a ~7-point gap, not ~9.
Pensions are about a quarter of public spending: €422bn in 2025 = 24.3% of all public spending and 14.1% of GDP (COR). The 32% is a different perimeter — the share of the Éducation nationale budget paid into the civil-service pension account.
Suspended until 2028 (LFSS 2026), not scrapped; age 64 still applies to people born in 1969 or later.
The government says stabilization requires getting back under 3% of GDP.
5.4% of GDP (2026, revised).
- 17:31错误9.2% of GDP.
Conflation. The record riots of 2023 followed the police killing of Nahel M. (27 Jun–7 Jul 2023), which the Senate inquiry says exceeded even the 2005 riots in violence and destruction. The 2023 pension reform triggered mass strikes and protests with unrest, not 'the worst riots since '68'.
Suspended until 2028, not scrapped entirely.
France grew 0.9% in 2025; 0.5% is the 2026 forecast.
60% to 45% (explorer: 45.2%).
The US corporate rate is 21% federal, about 25.6% with state taxes. That's above the OECD average (24.1%), not one of the lowest.
OECD 2016 range: 0.2% of GDP (Spain) to 1.0% (Switzerland). 0.2% is the lowest, not the average.
The abolition (voted in 2017, effective 1 Jan 2018) is right. The Senate report gives a net yield of €4.2bn in 2017 and net departures of about 597 a year in 2012–16. The 10,000 people, €35bn and €7bn figures have no primary source.
JCT's 2024 estimate, cited by CBO: $881bn over 2025–2034, an average of about $88bn a year, not $200–300bn.
France 3's caption says a gendarme; the girl herself says 'un policier' grabbed her by the neck. 'Riot police' (CRS) is unsupported, but '#140: gendarme, not riot police' over-corrects. 'Banned' is broadly fair: police formally renounced the strangulation hold in 2021 and gendarmerie doctrine has proscribed it for years (doctrine, not statute).
The teen who lost a hand on Oct 17 was 17, in Saint-Étienne. Only the age changes.
410,000 (ministry) and 110,000 in Paris (prefecture) were end-of-day totals; at 13:00 the minister had counted 35,000.
Officials call it a racist terrorist attack targeting victims for their 'supposed colour and religion'; religion is part of it, but 'Islamophobic' narrows it. The victim, Pengo Bossio Wangi, 26, was an amateur MMA fighter, not an instructor.
Age 26 is right; he was an amateur MMA fighter (Atch Academy), not an instructor.
The prefecture said the 8,000 'rioters' were among the 30,000+ looters (8,000 instigators + 22,000 'profiteurs'); city hall, from CCTV, counts ~1,500 looters.
At least 3,000 shops: PM Lecornu put it at « au moins 3 000 » shops hit by damage and theft that weekend. 'Over' should be 'at least' (minor).
TikTok-accelerated, per a police source: 20 Minutes quotes one police source on TikTok's « rôle d'accélérateur inédit ». "Guiding kids to smashed storefronts" is unsupported.
Partly because they expected 200k: 550,000 marched against 200,000 expected, but franceinfo lists the turnout surprise as one added factor (« S'ajoute… ») alongside deployment and intelligence failures. Say 'partly because'.
Both numbers exist, but on different perimeters. €91bn is 2027 interest for all public administrations (HCFP §115: 2.9 pts of GDP); €62bn is the State budget's 2026 debt charge (AFT: €62.6bn). Like for like: all administrations €79.2bn (2026) → €91bn (2027), +€11.8bn (+15%); State only €62.6bn → €72.9bn, +€10.3bn (+16%). The on-air pairing implies +€29bn (+47%), about three times the real rise.
- 17:29夸大€62bn is right for the State budget alone in 2026 (AFT: €62.6bn), but I set it against €91bn, which is 2027 interest for all of government. Like for like: all government €79.2bn (2026) → €91bn (2027); State only €62.6bn → €72.9bn. Either way the rise is about €10–12bn, not ~€29bn.
3.1% y/y in September 2026 (from 2.4% in August); energy +21.3%.
Debt rose ~17.6 points over 2020 (98.1% end-2019 → 115.7% end-2020), over a year, not overnight.
True for Sept 2024–Sept 2025 (Barnier, Bayrou, Lecornu), but Lecornu has been PM since Sept/Oct 2025 — over a year at recording.
France 'over half' verified (58.4%). US 'about a quarter' holds only against total debt (foreign holdings $9.33tn / $40.18tn = 23%); against debt held by the public, the usual measure, it is 29–31% ($9.33tn / $32.41tn = 28.8% Aug 2026; CRS: 31% Dec 2025). Say 'under a third'.
1.4% (net about 0.8%) is what executives forecast for the next three years. The measured average effect so far is 0.29%.
At most $3.6T: Gartner's figure is a ceiling, not a forecast.
Clinton did raise the top rate (OBRA 1993: a new 36% bracket plus 39.6% over $250k, up from 31%). But it passed in Aug 1993, during a slow recovery (unemployment 6.8%, 1993 real GDP +2.7%), not a boom. The boom came later.
21% federal, about 25.6% with state taxes. 'Twenty-five and a half' only works as the combined rate; the 'about fifteen percent' effective rate is unsourced.
OBBBA §70301 permanently restored 100% first-year depreciation for qualified property acquired after 19 Jan 2025, so servers and equipment can be expensed. Data-center buildings are not short-lived property, and no source quantifies how much this explains the lower effective rate or the drop in receipts.
By Yale's numbers about half the potential gain is lost to the capital shift ('nearly twice as large' if shares were fixed), not all of it.
Prop 40 (3 Nov 2026) is a one-time 5% tax on assets over $1bn, not a recurring wealth tax.

The strongest version of my point is that in France's draft 2027 budget, the State's interest bill (€72.9bn) is about the same as its whole defense budget (€73.2bn), and that's true. 'More than defense and education combined' isn't, on any budget, so it goes.

1.4% (net about 0.8%) is what executives forecast for the next three years. The measured average effect so far is 0.29%.
The near-term measured numbers are humbler. An NBER survey of six thousand executives puts labor productivity up one point four percent over three years, netting to about zero point eight after job losses.
A forecast presented as a measurement. The figures themselves are right (the survey had 'nearly 6,000' respondents).
The 1.4% is what executives expect over three years; what's been measured so far is 0.29%. Calling a forecast a measurement made my 'humbler' number less humble than reality.
At most $3.6T: Gartner's figure is a ceiling, not a forecast.
data centers need eight and a half trillion in cumulative revenue by twenty thirty to justify the spend, and they're on track for three point six.
Gartner says AI revenue is forecast to reach no more than $3.6 trillion by 2030, against the $8.5T needed. Calling $3.6T 'on track' turns an upper bound into a central forecast.
Gartner's $3.6T is the most they think AI revenue can reach, not where it's heading. That makes the hole at least as big as I said, probably bigger.

The tax-hike half is verified. 'During a boom' gets the order backwards: the tax rise came before the late-90s boom. 'Politically survivable' is arguable: Clinton was re-elected in 1996, but Democrats lost Congress in 1994 (not fetched from a primary source).
